SerenOT was created
Having worked for the NHS, Social Services, and a private business, Bryher decided it was time to start her own business with the plan to work with children, young people, and families.
Covid-19
Bryher had been building up a caseload when the Covid-19 Pandemic hit. All of a sudden, clients started to cancel sessions, everybody was told to “stay at home”, and Bryher wondered what on earth she was going to do!

Time for a rebrand and a move to virtual working
Bryher was able to rebuild her services and offer these virtually. This seemed perfect timing for a rebrand whilst increasing visability, so SerenOT became Helping Kids Shine. Fun fact…SerenOT was chosen by Bryher as “Seren” is the Welsh word for “Star” and “OT” stands for “Occupational Therapy”. Many times, Bryher would get phone calls for “Seren the Occupational Therapist”, so it was time for a change. “Helping Kids Shine” was the original strapline for SerenOT.
Premises!
Until now, the team had been working virtually. Bryher had been keen to find premises before the Covid-19 Pandemic, but it had worked out well to not have found anything. Bryher stumbled across The Old Fire Station by chance, and the room that was available was perfect. The summer was very busy with getting the room ready for use.

Building a Team
Business was booming! Bryher realised she couldn’t do everything on her own. Bryher had been supported by her husband Ben in the background for a while, completing administrative tasks where possible, and they realised it was time to start building both a Therapy and Office team.
Incorporation
Until April 2022, Bryher had been working as a “sole trader”. Ben and Bryher decided in April 2022 to incorporate the business with the creation of Helping Kids Shine Limited.

The Art of Progression
Years later, we are still constantly improving our offerings and expanding our team in line with our Young Person-led vision and approach (and we are all having fun doing so!)
